Lots of love for leather...

(I'm not as orange as I look here…it was the lighting I promise!!)

Vest - Primark
Necklace & skirt - H&M
Shoes - Step in Style
Watch - ASOS

I loved my makeup here, I wore EL Double Wear with lashings of Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer. I used the NYX bronzer and my favourite Mac blush ever, Lovecloud. A swipe of my favourite Essence highlighting powder and my skin was a gooden. I kept eyes simple with just a lightly contoured lid from my Naked Basics palette, some liquid winged liner and my favourite Demi Whispies. Lipstick was one of the MUA matte liquid lipsticks which is probably the worst makeup item I've ever used in my entire makeup wearing life. It lasted for the life span of my photography session when it completely shrivelled up on my lips, dropped off in lumps when I spoke, left a waxy residue after I took it off and stained my lips. Great colour, vile product (sorry).

I had such a great night out in this outfit, it's not often I go out with this much flesh on show but hey, if you can't dress up for a girls night out then when can you??? I'm really struggling with what to wear with this skirt, everything that's not completely form hugging makes me look a lot bigger than I am. Any suggestions welcome!

January favourites...

(insert generic 'I can't believe it's the end of January!' exclamation here)

So aside from the usual comments about how fast the years going already, I also wanted to say that this is the last favourites post coming to you from over in Aus! I'm writing this on the 1st of February which means this month I'll be heading back to the UK for the foreseeable future! So let's get cracking...

Kicking off with hair, my poor locks have been so de-hydrated that the only thing I've managed to get them to do is sit in a top-knot until next wash day. Roll on a mop chop. And for this I've been loving the Garnier Fructis Volume Flex and Hold hairspray to keep strays in place.

Just one skincare product this month but it's completely revolutionised my skin care routine, and that's my much loved Rosehip Oil which you can read my review on here.

My Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum has made it into yet another favourites post. I've been trying to use up almost empty products so I don't have to lug them home with me and it's made me fall back in love with this yet again. Follow that with my new Nars Creamy Concealer blended in with the Real Techniques contour brush and I have the perfect base. To add a bit of lift and glow to my skin I've been reaching for the NYX Illuminator for face and body which I reviewed here.

It's been a month of no effort when it comes to makeup (it's too hot) so my lips have been fairly neutral...just a quick layer of my Nivea lip butter in vanilla and macadamia and I'm good to go. On the days where I need a splash of colour, I've picked up my Illamasqua Colouring Pencil in Indecent (review coming soon).

Eyes have been kept simple too....a slick of the new Maybelline Hyper Glossy liquid liner, followed by lashings of Rimmel Lash Accelerator which I raved about in a post earlier in January. If I have needed some colour on the lids of I've felt like experimenting with some neutral tones for day-time smokey looks, I've gone straight to my Urban Decay Naked 3. Predictable, but for good reason!

Jumping on the Nars Sheer Glow bandwagon...

I'm embarrassingly late on the bandwagon with this one but I finally picked up Nars Sheer Glow last week, and I found myself asking WHY did it it take me so long?? Non of my high street foundations were quite cutting it for me anymore, and I was getting fairly 'over' watching peoples top 2013 product countdowns and seeing Sheer Glow pop up over and over again and be completely clueless to it's amazingness.

I was colour matched to Fiji which is a perfect match to my skin (although when I loose my tan I guarantee I'll be dropping a shade or two!) and blends seamlessly. Now, being an oily skinned, full coverage foundation kinda girl, the words 'sheer' and 'glow' struck dread into my very sole. After plenty of research it turns out Sheer Glow tends to be a medium coverage which I'm actually preferring, but can easily be built in layers if the need strikes me.

As for the 'glow' aspect, it's not as glittery as Revlon Photo Ready or Rimmel Wake Me Up which was a good start. I found that buffing Sheer Glow into the skin then swiping a bit of Mac MSF Natural over my t-zone was the perfect coverage and gave the most beautiful 'my skin but better' finish to my face that just got better as the day wore on.

This has won a firm place in my heart early on and I'm sure this isn't the last you'll hear from me about this foundation!

Top 13 of 2013...the makeup edition...

Top foundation has to be, without a doubt, Revlon Nearly Naked. Third bottle of this bad boy and the love affair is still continuing.

The concealer that has kept creeping back into my life (well, makeup bag) in 2013 was the Body Shop Illuminating Touch in the shade 3. Great for achieving Kim K style cheekbones.

The only bronzer to grace my face was Benefit Hoola, which I'd probably award as my top product of all time award. Big news.

Favourite blushers go to Sleek in general but, not to be called a cheater, I'd pick Pixie Pink if I was going to single one out.

Highlighter could only be The Balm Mary-Lou Manizer, used sparingly, for a beautiful daily glow.

For eyeshadow the only thing I regularly reach for, and my one 'take away with me everywhere' was my Urban Decay Naked Basics palette. For day looks, eye looks, and brows this was my saviour.

I couldn't let eyeliner slip by without throwing a huge mention out to the Rimmel Scandaleyes pencils, especially in the taupe and nude shades, and my trusty Topshop liquid liner in black.

Again, mascara is a two parter as big lashes were my favourite look of 2013. My stand out winners were Benefit They're Real and Makeup Forever Smokey Lash.

For the nude/pink lipstick offerings I turned to the NYX matte lipsticks towards the later part of the year, but my favourite lip discovery of 2013 were hands down the Maybelline vivids, of which I own and love every single one.

Lastly my Urban Decay de-slick setting spray has been a life saver on these hot Australian days.

Honorable mentions go to the Real Techniques brushes, Rimmel Apocolips (especially Big Bang), the Maybelline colour tattoos and the new Revlon lip glosses. Sorry, I cheated.

What has everyone else loved in 2013??

October Favourites...

I won't go on for too long because I have a full review on it here, but The Body Shop warming mineral mask has been my life saver this month. The Herbal Essences shampoo and conditioner duo in Tousle Me Softly has been my go to shower pairing for an everyday hair wash. It smells lush, leaves my hair soft but by no means lifeless, and makes it super easy to style. And for those days when I clearly haven't (but probably should have) reached for these two, the V05 Plump Me Up dry shampoo comes to my rescue. Again, it's bagged it's very own review here.

I've got my sticky little hands on another of Lush's lip scrub offerings, this time in Popcorn. Not much to say on these as most people know or will have heard how much of a life saver these little bargain pots are. I've fallen in love with the Bourjois Happy Light foundation this month, although I do have to powder with with my Holy Grail Mac MSF Natural (I'm the shade medium plus). It lets me real skin show through while giving just enough coverage for day to day wear. Why oh why have I never owned a Mac 239 brush? Who let me get to 25 years of age without ever having one in my possession?

Benefit They're Real is back in my life (and, yes I know I'm sorry, back in my monthly favourites posts). I may have found an (almost) dupe for this from the drugstore but more on that later in the month. For lip wear, I've been dabbling in the Kate Moss matte range and in particular wearing 113, a pale nude, and 107, the infamous deep burgundy red that everyone, including myself) is going loopy for right now.

And, finally, what would a favourites post be without a product from The Balm? Mary Lou-manizer is everything I need a highlight to be. It lasts (for hours), gives a subtle shine to the desired areas (with the right brush and a very light hand) and comes in the cutest packaging ever.

What are everyone else's October favourites?

August favourites....

Sleek Oh So Special palette (I use this daily for my brows, and almost every day to create one of my two go-to makeup looks - a pink shimmery smokey eye)
Rimmel Stay Matte powder
The Balm Big Mama blush
Revlon Nearly Naked foundation
The Balm What's Your Type volumising mascara
17 Mirror Shine lipstick in Beehive

I'm trying to save money so currently magazines are a rare treat. I picked up Cleo this month mainly because of the beautiful Blake Lively on the cover!!

Due to a lack of healthy hot chocolate in Australia, mum sent me a selection bag of my favourite Options hot chocolates in a little care package. I honestly have never received anything better in the post. It's the small things.

July favourites....

Not many this month, I've mainly been finding my feet in Australia rather than finding my favourite moisturiser, however I think the latter may be my next mission.

Tigi Bedhead Sugar Shock - a much nicer texture (and smell) than most sea salt sprays, I've turned to a sugar spray instead. Non of the crunchiness but all of the volume and texture, I'm not sure why we don't hear more about this beauty!

Batiste dry shampoo in Wild - my favourite of all the Batiste scents, my hair has been so oily recently that this has been a life saver.

Benefit Erase Paste - a few sleepless nights worrying about jobs etc have caused me to reach for my heaviest of heavy duty concealers. This literally hides EVERYTHING.

L'Oreal High Intensity Pigment cream liner in black - apologies but I bought this online and am not sure you can actually buy this in the shops in Aus or the UK??? If you can track this down then please purchase immediately if you're a fan of the gel eyeliners that are doing the rounds. This is a lot softer and doesn't dry out as quick as I've found most gels to.

Bourjois Healthy Mix serum foundation - not too much explanation needed here. I. Love. This. Holy grail foundation, just needs a bit of powder and it lasts all day, doesn't look heavy on the skin, doesn't show dry patches, and doesn't slip or slide. Perfection.

Barry M lipstick in shade 147 - erring on the peachy side of a peachy pink, I've worn this over lip balm, slightly patted out for a subtle look.

Anatomicals Help The Paw hand cream - a bargain of a hand cream for such a big tube, this is my go-to last thing at night hand cream. Smells lovely!

Reading in general - Some of my favourites have been Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn, and The Case of the Missing Boyfriend by Nick Alexander. Currently reading Revenge Wears Prada and loving it!

Raspberry Liquorice - I've been going through a couple of bags a week of this, so tasty and really keeps my sugar cravings at bay!

Cool combo's....

I love it when I find two makeup items that just 'work' together.

Sleek blusher Pixie Pink and Elf stippling brush. I love how this brush applies really strong bold blushes that need a light hand when applying.

Bourjois health mix serum and Sigma angled flat top kabuki. This brush makes the foundation go on like silk, with minimum effort. Hardly any blending needed, great when I'm in a rush.

Revlon lip butter in Strawberry Shortcake and Chanel lipgloss in 148. The lip butter is fairly glossy as it is, but with this lipgloss over the top it stays put for hours and gives it a real sparkly party look.

Anyone else got any great combo's?

Most reached for items #1....

John Freda Frizz Ease leave in conditioner to treat my hair after long days in the sun and sea....

Palmers Cocoa Butter SPF 15 because the sun has finally shown it's face again and I'm enjoying making the most of it (safely)...

Nivea lip butter in Caramel Cream has such a rich formula and keeps my lips moisturized all day...

I love...strawberries & milkshake hand cream helps keep my hands and cuticles soft before during and after working hard on the farm...

Cover Girl clump crusher mascara deserves all the hype it gets, it separates and lengthens and holds curl all day....

Maybelline colour sensational in pink pop is my go-to bright lipstick when all I want is minimal makeup on hot days. It has a gorgeous creamy finish and wears really well while I'm sweating it out in the Australian sunshine...

Organix macadamia oil is an extra little treat for my hair and helps keep frizz at bay when things start to get humid, plus really affordable...

L'Oreal Nude Magique BB Cream is a holy grail face product for me, light enough to wear on hot days, with great coverage and matches to my skin tone perfectly...

February beauty favourites....

Maybelline Colour Sensational lipstick in 900 Pink Pop: Glossy, pink, long lasting. Enough said.

Rimmel Wake Me Up Foundation: I've been working some crazy hours recently and needed some sort of skin pick me up. This foundation is a miracle worker, it has those light reflecting pigments (note: NOT glitter) that give your face a radiant glow that lasts all day. I like to think this is a dupe for Nars Sheer Glow that my poor budget won't stretch to!

Vaseline cocoa butter: I bought this for a bargain of $5 and it's lasting me ages. Smells like a mix between chocolate and vanilla, makes my skin really soft and makes me want to eat my own arm.

Lee Stafford argon oil shampoo and conditioner: Lee Stafford will forever be one of my favourite hair care brands. This doesn't smell quite as good as his flat iron protect mist (come on girls you know exactly what I'm talking about) but it's made my poor dry ends start to feel a bit healthier. Although to be honest I think the only thing that can fix them would be a hair cut.

Maybelline Baby Lips: This one has barely no colour, smells like berries (if a little bit artificial) but literally made them as soft as a baby. Only down side, I'm going through it at a scary sort of speed.

L'Oreal High Intensity Pigments colour truth cream eyeliner in black: One of the longest eyeliner names in history, and one of the longest lasting eyeliners I've ever used. This stays on all day, is the blackest black eyeliner I've ever used and is in such a big pot it could well last me forever and ever. LOVE this and is probably my favouritest favorite of the month.

Nivea Daily Essentials Rich Regenerating Night Cream: I went on a bit of a drugstore skin care binge recently and, if I'm totally honest, this was the only thing that was anywhere near worth me picking up. It lives up to it's name being a rich cream, sinks into the skin without feeling oily or greasy, and makes my skin feel amazing when I wake up. And who doesn't love super soft skin??

My top five foundations...

I'm not really a collector of foundations to be honest, I tend to stick to what I like and not really change my ways, although I have collected some beauties over the past year or two.

(L - R Body Shop All Over Face Base, Bourjois Health Mix, Revlon Photo Ready, Mac Studio Fix Fluid, Estee Lauder Double Wear)

Body Shop All Over Face Base: The one and only non liquid foundation in my top five, I used this religiously for about three years back when I was around 17/18/19. It does give a very powdery finish but I used to suffer from oily skin so this was the only product that really stayed put. I tend to reserve this if I need to apply makeup at the speed of light, but I'd never be without one in my collection.

Bourjois Healthy Mix: Well considering I hated this when I first tried it back in the summer, I have eaten my words. I LOVE this, so natural and light, easy to blend, and although I do find I need a powder to set it I think it lasts a good 5/6 hours before I need to powder again (which is really good on my skin!)

Revlon Photo Ready: I can get past the 'shimmer particles' in this foundation because to be honest I can't even tell! This is my current every day go-to foundation, I've got it in a couple of shades (one was passed on by my Mum who wasn't really a fan) and I just reach for this every day. I don't think this necessarily needs a powder (unless I'm expecting an all day wear) and I think it gives a really flawless finish.

Mac Studio Fix Fluid: I used to swear by this and got a few of my friends on the band wagon with me, but I started to crave something a bit lighter on my skin so switched to lighter covering foundations like HM. I do still use this from time to time, and I think it's great to cover up last nights sins if you've had a particularly heavy one. I love that this is a mat foundation but I do tend to favour something a bit fresher these days.

Estee Lauder Double Wear: I don't know where to start with this, I'm officially in love. Yes I know I just said I don't like heavy foundations but a little bit of this goes a long way. I do reserve it for nights out or on days when I need a 7am - 12pm sort of coverage. I don't necessarily need a powder, although something light like Elf HD Powder is perfect with it. It goes on well, blends well, stays on all day, doesn't slip and slide, and most off all, looks gorgeous in my makeup collection.

Are any of these in your top five?

Weekly review...Revlon PhotoReady Perfecting Primer....

I'm not one for a primer, I'll be honest with you. I always feel like I SHOULD, but never really find that they make much of a difference (with the exception of Benefit Porefessional but some of us can't justify the price tag so save it for 'special occasions'). I always have one on the go, though, just in case I feel the need to 'prime' of a morning. I picked this one up from the lady who stands on my local market selling amazing makeup and silly cheap prices. I think I paid £6 for this which is about half it's RRP. Bargain.

It's a pale pink in colour, with a faint iridescent shimmer to it. The shimmer is subtle, like the foundation,  and to be honest I don't notice it when it's under foundation. The formula is quite 'liquidy' compared to most primers I've tried, is really easy to blend, and has a slightly chalky feeling when it's applied. This isn't a bad thing though, and I think it's what makes it more of a matt finish.

I like it. My makeup stays put, I don't get too oily, it smells nice, it's not shimmery on the skin. Basically it's everything you'd want from a primer. You get 27ml of product which I think is a fair amount for such a thin consistency, as a little goes a long way. Hard to say if I'd re-purchase this again as I could probably quite happily go without primer in my daily makeup routine, but this has impressed me!

Has anyone else tried this primer?

March monthly empties....

Another good month for empties!

Products I re-purchased: I had a back up of the Botanics eye make-up remover, I'm a big big fan of this stuff. I also had a back up of my deodorant and Vitamin E moisturiser like every month. I re-purchased my Rimmel tan too - this is just a night out staple to give my legs a bit of colour! I actually finished a foundation this month which I was thrilled with! And even though I've got quite a stash of foundations sitting in a draw, I went back to Bourjois and re-purchased healthy mix which is quite something considering I hated it when I first bought it!

Products I've changed: You might be able to see the tiny stub of a Mac Kohl eyeliner pencil in Smoulder on the right hand side of the pic...this is my fourth re-purchase of this and sadly my last. I've got a spare sat in my draw and I will use it up when the occasion suits but it's definitely no longer my favourite kohl pencil, it's been blown out of the water by the Soap and Glory pencil which I did a review on here. Also, as much as I loved the Witch primer, I've recently purchased the new Revlon photo ready primer which I'll be doing a review on soon and so far I'm loving.

Finally the last thing of note is the Str-Vectin eye cream. This stuff is INCREDIBLE! I got it in a GlossyBox ages ago and literally can't praise it highly enough, apart from the hefty £45 price tag so unfortunatly have had to settle for a cheaper alternative. One day though, I'll definitely be re-buying this!

Anyone else had a successful empties month?

Current obsessions...

I'm so in love with lots of things right now....

Mythic Oil: My hair has grown so much over the last few months, and I think it's probably a combo of not using much heat on it, and using this most days...it makes my hair feel so healthy!

Kate Moss for Rimmel lipstick in 03: I think I've worn this nearly ever day since I bought it, amazing colour and staying power, a really perfect nude without giving a 'foundation lip' effect.

The Body Shop Eye reviver duo: This is packed full of vitamin c to make your skin really bright and refreshed, I use this every morning (the under eye radiance cream and cooling all round eye roll on) before my makeup to keep my eyes sparkling and make my concealer stay on all day.

Vivo blush: I have NO idea what colour this is as it's worn off the back, but it's a gorgeous subtle shimmery pink that I've been using so much recently to perk up my tired winter skin, I want to get all the shades in these blushes they're so good for the money!

Office boots: I've been looking for some boots like this for AGES and finally found some in Office (of course) a few weeks ago, these have been moulded to my feet ever since!

Multi-coloured nails: I haven't had all my nails the same colour for months, this is much more fun!

T-shirts: This is only a small collection of my t-shirts, I cannot stop buying them! I'm really not a shirt or 'pretty' top sort of girl, if I could live in t-shirts and denim shorts all my life I would!

Estee Lauder Double Wear: This is a bit of a cheat as I've only worn this once, but the obsession part comes from looking at it's beautiful-ness (real word, honest) on my makeup shelf, I can't wait to start using it more!

One Day: I CANNOT put this down, I'm so near the end and am dying to know how it ends. I'm definitely going to have to watch the film as soon as I've read the rest of this!

What are your current obsessions?

Updated daily foundation routine….

Now try not to be too astounded when I tell you that my Mac Studio Fix Fluid has gone to the back of the foundation line. As much as I still love it above any other foundation EVER, I really wanted to use up some other’s that I’ve had and not really liked, in order to avoid wasting money!

I did a review a while ago on the Garnier BB cream saying I didn’t like it, which is still true. In fact I now think I hate it. I gave it to my Mum to see if she got on any better with it, and I’m yet to hear a verdict but I’d be fairly interested to know. Anyway. I also hated the Bourjois Health Mix (oooo controversial) but was determined to find a way I liked it. I tried my Mac mineralised skin finish over the top, I tried the Elf HD powder, I even tried mixing the BB Cream and Healthy Mix together (odd combo, wouldn’t recommend trying this!). Anyway while I was on the Elf website a while ago I (for some unknown reason) decided I wanted to try one of their mineralised foundations. Now I like a full coverage foundation, preferably nice and thick and ‘glowy’. Again, bad decision because I hated it. However one morning while I was throwing all sorts of junk on my face, I came across the Healthy Mix/Elf Mineral foundation combo and I am LOVING IT! I can’t say I’d ever wear it on an evening out or a special occasion but for an every day, wearing to work type foundation, I’m smitten!

Me new combo

Basically, I’d encourage you to just chuck on a load of combo’s of products even if you’re not keen on them because you never know what magic will happen!

I filmed my five minute face on Saturday before I went off to watch the rugby but YouTube wouldn't let me upload it until now so the chatty bit doesn't really make much sense but never mind...here it is...

Weekly Review...Garnier BB Cream...

It's that time of the week for the good old weekly review, this time it's the so called miracle product Garnier Skin Naturals Daily All-in-one B.B Cream.

(Excuse the grass background, I felt like getting back to nature!!)
Consistency straight out the bottle

Blended in on the bottom part of my hand

I'm sure you'll all of heard of this product, there's been a massive hype around it at the moment. First of all, the stuff from the bottle....

Apparently it evens skin tone and boosts glow, blurs imperfections, smooths fine lines, gives 24 hour hydration, and has SPF 15 protection. I wasn't entirely sure how to wear this at first, and I certainly wasn't expecting it to be this thick and creamy. I tried it as a foundation but it didn't give the right sort of coverage for me, so instead I used it as a primer, with my Bourjois healthy mix over the top. The consistency is really greasy for me, I tried to use my fingers to apply it but it didn't really feel like I was getting much coverage from it. Basically, I wasn't too impressed. I've used it every day for a week and it just doesn't do much for me. I'll keep at it, and I guess for the £9.99 price tag it isn't too bad, but I just can't see where this miracle is happening. It may depend on your skin type and what sort of product suits you, and I would say give it a go as I've heard a lot of people really like it, but unfortunately not for me.

While we're on the subject of things that don't work for us, I'm going to tell you about my other disappointment. I heard everyone rave on about the Bourjois healthy mix foundation and thought I'd give it a go considering it was cheaper than my usual Mac Studio Fix Fluid and might be lighter on my skin as an everyday foundation.

Consistency straight from the bottle

Consistency when blended

Oh dear oh dear oh dear. I wanted to love this so much, but unfortunately I didn't. I had to cake my face in powder and bronzer for it to last through to lunch time without looking like a newly waxed car, I hated how thin it was, and I couldn't get a good coverage when I put it on in the morning. I gave this a good three/four week trial using it every day, then went back to my Mac Studio Fix Fluid in NW22. I just want to take the opportunity to apologise profusely to my poor Mac Studio Fix. I will never turn my back on you again...

Consistency straight from the bottle

Consistency when blended

Colour, consistency, coverage are all 10/10. The only thing I have to fault is the smell which is a bit paint like, as I've heard many people say before. I don't even think the cost is that bad as it lasts so long.

Anyway sorry that wasn't a particularly positive post, we did end on a high though!!
Has anyone else tried the Garnier BB cream and had a better experience than I had?
